A collection of images capturing the raw beauty of the gentle Nguni cattle.
Christmas holidays as a child were spent on a family farm in the Eastern Cape. Returning there as an adult with children of my own ignited a passion for the Nguni cattle of the Thandweni herd that reside there.
Belonging to the Nguni people of Southern Africa the breed evolved over hundreds of years. Nguni cattle are resistant to diseases and droughts and are known for their beauty and wide variety of multi-coloured hides. Each Nguni is differently and distinctly patterned and has a metaphorical name associated with birds, plants and other concepts.
